The Performing Arts

 African Dance

The African dance has a strong relationship with the rhythms produced by drums.  The African Dance utilizes the concepts of polyrhythm and total body articulation for expression. Many African dances include drums, vocals, and rhythmical stomping of feet in cadence with drum beats. The drums represent the beat of the heart, the vocals represent the tribe itself, and the stomping of the feet shows emotion and sometimes anger. Traditionally the dance occurs collectively. However, sometimes solo dancers or musicians are in the middle of a circle.

Capoeira

Develop flexibility, intuition, self-defense, leadership, foreign language, music, and expressiveness.

Brazilian Dance (coming soon)

The Brazilian Dance in our Center is a fusion of many powerfull and upbeat dance movements that accompany the various brazilian rythims such as Samba de Enredo from Rio de Janeiro, Samba Axe from Bahia, Afro-Brazilian rhythms such as Ijexa also from Bahia, Samba Reggae and Samba de Roda from many different regions of Brazil, and Forro, a contemporary northern Brazilian rhythm. This class is very fun and expressive.
